Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everybody!! What a year 2011 has been. I’ve had a blast, but its been a year of both highs and lows.
The lowest for sure has to be the loss of my Dad’s sister, my Auntie Kathryn. A big influence in my life, and many others too, Kathryn dedicated her life to her family and her career as a social worker. Loved and respected by many, Kathryn fought her battle against Cancer right to the end. Kathryn’s suffering ended on 25.7.2011, a date that will stick in my mind for years to come. A very sad day, but having seen the pain she was suffering it was a relief to know she wouldn’t have to suffer any longer.
Now for the high’s…
We (Arroba Latino) ran our biggest event to date, the “Cuban Salsa Shangri-La”, in the breath-taking village of Nant Gwrtheyrn. A huge under-taking, and in all reality it hit my pocket hard. The incredible line-up made for a huge spectacle, but it was never going to be easy to recoup the money spent. I’ll never forget the incredible atmosphere created by our fantastic volunteers, the artists & performers, the staff at Nant Gwrtheyrn, and of course the salsero’s that supported our event. To you all, a huge thank you!
On a musical level, the end of the year saw the biggest turn-around for some time. Having recently only made the occasional guest appearance as a musician / singer / entertainer, I decided it was time to start doing things properly again. Having been encouraged and supported from a very young age, music has always been in my blood and in my heart. Over the coming months you’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more of me on the mic, and I’ve also been writing new material also. You can read moreĀ about my musical past in the “About Jay” section, so I’ll not ramble too much here.
Thank you to everybody who’s supported me and Arroba Latino through 2011. Have a great new years party, and good luck for 2012.
All the best,
Jay x
